Carol “Ann” Kahler Sherwood, age 83, died September 18, 2026 in Washington City, UT. Ann was born June 16, 1943 in Salt Lake City, UT to Leroy and Carol Seegmiller Young.

Ann spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Nevada before her family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where she attended Lathrop High School for her senior year. There, she took the field as one of the school’s two majorettes and caught the eye of her future husband, Bernie Sherwood. She graduated in 1961, and the two married and began their family the following year.

In 1969, their growing family left Alaska and moved to Torrance, California, where Ann embraced the sunshine, beaches, and active lifestyle. Creative and adventurous, she played guitar, sang and wrote songs of her own, and loved to perform and dance. She could often be found biking or rollerblading along the Strand and even spent a few summers working as a lifeguard at Monsoon Lagoon in Redondo Beach.

Later in life, with her children grown, Ann returned to Utah and made her home in Cedar City with her parents. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant, spending many years providing care and comfort to others. She was also a devoted caregiver to both her parents in their final years.

Following her retirement, Ann relocated to Washington City, where she discovered a new passion and began volunteering at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm. There, she became a fossil technician and preparator, cleaning and restoring fossils and creating custom mounts to stabilize and protect prehistoric specimens for storage and display.

She absolutely loved this work and enthusiastically referred to herself as “Dinosaur Annie”. Her interest in paleontology also led her to serve for a time as the Vice President of the Utah Friends of Paleontology (UFOP).

Ann was sweet, loving, and funny. She loved Jesus, stickers, tiny things, emoji’s and Bitmoji’s, reading books, and watching sports. She loved roses and had a special fondness for artificial flowers whose lasting blooms were a constant source of beauty. The beauty she surrounded herself with reflected the warmth, kindness, and grace she carried within.

Ann, or “Annie” as many affectionately called her, was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind countless stories, laughter, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Ann is survived by her four devoted children: Jina Sherwood of Medford, OR; Laurie Sherwood Johnson (Mark) of Gilbert, AZ; Douglas Sherwood (Brian) of Las Vegas, NV; Amber Sherwood Klumker (Jonathan) of Gig Harbor, WA; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and her siblings Ray Kahler (Darcy) of Cedar City, UT, Bill (Young) Kahler of Beaver, UT, and her sister Penny Kahler Christensen (Laurie).

Ann was preceded in death by her birth father, LeRoy George Young in 2004; her mother Carol Seegmiller in 2004; her adoptive father, Millard Howe Kahler in 2014; and her brothers Danny Wilson Kahler in 1952, and Lee Dee Kahler in 2017.

Services will be held at McArthur Funeral Home 160 W 700 S St. George, UT on October 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in the Cedar City Cemetery at 685 N 150 W Cedar City, Utah.
