Cantwell

Hurricane
Craig “Big C” James Cantwell
August 27, 1977 - July 17, 2026
Craig “Big C” James Cantwell gave a good fight and left too early on July 17, 2026 in St. George, Utah. He was born to William and Kay Cantwell of Smithfield, Utah on August 27, 1977, joining his brother Blaine, and adding more excitement to their family than ever imagined.
Growing up in Smithfield, Craig lived an adventurous life, whether he was running across the street to the gas station, causing a little chaos in the neighborhood, or making friends with anyone he met. His goal was always to make everyone feel welcome and to ensure no one left without a smile on their face.
During his years at Sky View High School, Craig proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. His love for sports led him to become the manager for the basketball team and an athletic trainer for the rest of the Bobcats. He often helped wrap his fellow classmates before their games and continued doing so until his graduation in 1996.
After graduation, Craig served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rapid City, South Dakota. During his time there, he met countless people, shared many laughs, and left everyone he encountered with a smile.
After returning from his mission, Craig found himself in several professions. Whether he was painting with Bill’s Painting, coaching competitive basketball teams, or working on the golf courses in St. George, no matter the job, he was, and always will be one of the happiest people you could ever meet.
Craig’s love for animals, especially bears and dogs, reflected his kind, gentle, and forgiving spirit. He was never hesitant to give the shirt off his back, send a text when it was needed most, or end a conversation without saying, “Loves you.” To know Big C was to be unconditionally loved by Big C.
Craig is survived by his loving parents, William and Kay Cantwell; his brother, Blaine Cantwell and his wife, Kelley, and his younger brother, Michael Cantwell; his nephew, Hayden Cantwell and his wife, Zoyee; and his niece, Abbey Cantwell. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors who will forever cherish his memory.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers who cared for Craig throughout the years. We extend a special thank you to his cancer, dialysis, and prosthetics teams for their exceptional compassion, dedication, and support. Your kindness, expertise, and unwavering care brought comfort to Craig and our entire family, and we will be forever grateful.
A private graveside will be held by the family at Smithfield Cemetery at a later date.
Loves you forever and always! — Big C
