Listen to Obituary

Donna Dee Godfrey James, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on November 1, 2026, in Ivins, Utah. She was born on May 21, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ruben Godfrey and Thurma Jakeman Godfrey.

Donna shared a beautiful life with the love of her life, Jim James. They were married on April 24, 1957, and spent many wonderful years building a life and family together. Their love story continued until Jim's passing on June 1, 2025. After 17 months apart, Donna has finally been reunited with her beloved Jim.

Donna was a devoted mother to her two sons, Kevin ( Vicky) and Randy (Kathy), and was also blessed to have Steve Walker, for whom she and Jim held permanent guardianship, as part of their family.

She worked for many years as a secretary at East High School in Salt Lake City, where she devoted herself to her work and became part of the school community.

Donna and Jim enjoyed traveling back East to West Virginia to visit their extended family. They also treasured their time in Bouse, Arizona, where they spent many happy days camping and made lasting friendships with their camping family over the years.

Donna had a special talent for crocheting and knitting, hobbies she truly loved. One of her greatest joys was sharing those skills with her great-granddaughters and teaching them to create things with their own hands. These lessons, along with the love and memories she shared, will continue to be passed down through the generations.

Donna was a proud grandmother to Jeremy (Vale) James, Heidi (Rick) St John, Dawna (Chad) Forcht, Kerstan (Carlos) James, RayLynn (Jay) Atkinson, Klayton James, and Dustin Walker. Her family continued to grow to include 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a special part of her legacy.

Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim James; her parents, Ruben Godfrey and Thurma Jakeman Godfrey; her older baby brother, Ray James Godfrey (December 6, 1927 – January 4, 1928); and son Steve Walker.

Donna leaves behind a family filled with love, cherished memories, and traditions that will carry on for generations. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, the friendships she made, the things she created with her hands, and the love she shared throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Ivins Unity Park 200 W 400 S Ivins Ut from 3-5 pm.

Rest peacefully, Donna. You are finally back in the arms of your Jim. Your love story never ended; it was simply waiting for you to be together again.
