Edward William Arnold, Jr. was born on Dec. 1, 1931, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Edward William Arnold Sr (1909-1989) and Lenora Bauer Arnold (1910-2004). “Eddie” was what his family called him. To differentiate between him and his dad who was already called “Ed”. Eddie was the first born to his parents. He was followed later by Mary Jane, Jerald, Geraldine and Nancy Lee. As a young boy his family lived in Sloan, Nevada, later moving to Henderson, NV (then known as Basic) finally to Las Vegas, Nevada.

INTELLIGENCE

Eddie graduated from Las Vegas High School. After High School he attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California with his good friend Jack Tobler. During the Korean War in 1952 he was drafted for service in the United States Army and was assigned to the Signal Corp, 4th Army. With 22 months of service in the Army coming to an end and not being interested in making a career in the service, he decided to enroll at Brigham Young University. While at BYU he renewed an acquaintance with Romaine Prince, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 14, 1956.

Following his 1957 graduation from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in finance with a 3.9 GPA. He received his license as a Certified Public Accountant after completing the four parts of the CPA exam and fulfilling the required two years of experience while employed by Arthur Young & Company.

Edward and Romaine welcomed seven children through the years: Gregory Edward (Shelley) Hurricane, UT, Sherilyn (Robert Martinez) Mesquite, NV, Elizabeth (deceased), Diana Lee Dietrich (Santa Clara UT), Darlene (Dan Matheson) Lexington, SC, Paul Edward (Ashlee Marie Bowman) Huntsville, AL, and Kathleen (David D. Arnold) London, Ontario Canada.

They have 26 grandchildren and 23 great Grandchildren.

INDUSTRY

Edward worked hard and had many business opportunities throughout his career. Working as a CPA remained a constant thread throughout his life. He was a partner in several businesses, including Ashworth & Arnold Company, a professional Certified Public Accountancy firm, a Furniture manufacturer, distribution and retail store, Gofer Skateboard Company (an early mass-manufacturer of skateboards), a Printing Company, Pressteel Company (manufacturer of industrial furniture & distributor of related supplies). Later he opened his own Real Estate business in Southern Utah.

INTEGRITY

As a businessman there were many times where differing ethics created challenges of integrity by his partners and managers. Yet through it all, he remained true to his moral and ethical compass. Rather than fight a legal battle he often would let go of the conflict and offer the assurance to his wife that he could sleep well at night knowing he did what he felt was right and didn’t treat anyone unfairly to the best of his ability. He forgave easily and never held a grudge or sought retribution against those who took advantage of him or falsely accused him.

A MAN OF GOD

Edward was a man of God. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ. While life was not a straight line, he never lost sight of his Savior just ahead of him leading his way. He loved learning and digging deeply into the gospel of Jesus Christ. In teaching his children he was like Father Lehi and always trying to teach his children the marvels of the Gospel and challenge them to dig in and feast on the word. Often, he would have new insights when attending the House of the Lord and cherished renewing the experience of the covenants and blessings received therein. He taught early morning seminary in California for 4 years, which was his favorite calling. He served in two bishoprics. Also serving many years as a High Council member to several Stake Presidents. He had the opportunity to baptize his father into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 1961.

His generous heart was a blessing to many. While living in So. California he served as a Stake missionary. After moving to Santa Clara, Utah he was called with his wife to serve as “Daily Dose” missionaries helping teach English as a second language. Even when his ability to communicate was extremely limited, he could say with clarity and conviction, “I KNOW that MY Redeemer lives!” as a powerful witness and testimony. His family is his greatest treasure and joy. They brought him the greatest joy and purpose! He loved helping others and often did so.

THE FINAL CHAPTER

After suffering for many years, the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s and many other incidents of advanced age, he went to slept peacefully the night of July 29, 2025. At around 9pm we couldn’t have guessed he would finish his mission in this life. He had fought back so many times. That night he joined the great family reunion prepared and waiting for his return to his heavenly home. He has left a legacy, and it will not be soon forgotten.

Ed had many wonderful people volunteer to help with his daily routine. His Santa Clara 17th Ward family had daily volunteers assist in getting him up from bed in the mornings and back to bed each night. Earth angels are real! At a critical moment a “Hoyer Lift” was lent by one who knew the need. With this new tool it allowed him to continue his daily routine and be up during the day. So many blessings daily from our Heavenly Father on his behalf. He really does know us personally and sees to our needs in the moment we most need. Thank you and we wish our most humble gratitude to each and everyone of you- too many to be able to name. You know who you are, and you are most loved and appreciated for your love, service and tender care.

Edward is survived by his wife Romaine and six of his children, including his sister Geraldine Kenney of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lenora, two sisters Mary Jane Tebbs Hoffman and Nancy Lee Hunsaker, a brother Gerald, his daughter Elizabeth and granddaughter Sariah Joy.
