Glen Hyrum Hansen, a beloved husband, father, brother, master craftsman, and devoted educator, peacefully hung up his tool belt for the final time on August 9, 2026, surrounded by the family he so proudly built. He was 78 years old.

Glen’s story began on January 17, 1948, in Lehi, Utah. Born to Mary Annie Butler and Hyrum Dee Hansen, he was the sixth of eleven children. Growing up on a ten-acre homestead, Glen learned the value of hard work and learned the art of adventure and survival alongside his ten siblings. In 1958, he moved to Castle Dale, Utah, where he lived throughout his high school years. He had plenty of stories from his youth that he would continue to tell with humor throughout his life.

A man of diverse talents, Glen participated in forensics, FFA, student government, drama, and music in high school. He was particularly remembered for his outstanding performance as Professor Higgins in "My Fair Lady," which earned him accolades throughout the county. Years later, he shared his love for performance and music by participating in productions with the St. George Musical Theater from 1990 to 1992. His roles in "So This is Dixie," "Whatsoever," and "Cotton Tales" were cherished by audiences and showcased his talent.

From 1968 to 1970, Glen served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southwest British Mission in England. During his missionary service, he was privileged to sing alongside President Spencer W. Kimball, who accompanied him on the piano. He served in many capacities in the church and had a deep understanding of the gospel and a testimony that sustained him throughout his life.

Glen graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University in 1974 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education and a minor in Educational Psychology. True to form, he celebrated graduation by immediately building his first home. This kicked off a lifelong career and love for construction.

On December 22, 1973, he married Jeanne Hansen in the Manti Utah Temple. Together, they welcomed and raised five children, moving from Fountain Green to Castle Dale to SLC, and eventually settling in St. George in 1983.

Over the years, Glen successfully ran his own building business and spent thirteen years teaching Industrial Arts and Construction at Pine View and Dixie High Schools. He took immense pride in teaching the next generation how to work with their hands.

When he wasn’t teaching or building, Glen could be found in his natural habitats: camping, hunting, fishing, caring for his animals, working on his farm, and spending time with his family. He always enjoyed his time on the farm in Fountain Green for the annual deer hunt with his kids and grandkids.

In 1993, Glen married Jill Cherrington. They shared 33 years together. They enjoyed their life in their home in New Harmony, UT, which Glen remodeled and made their own. They adopted and cared for many pets over the years. He spent his last years watching his favorite cowboy shows with his beloved dog Sophie in his lap. Glen loved visits from his kids and grandkids and always had a Ding Dong or Twinkie to share with them.

Glen’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He truly loved people and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He was always ready with a story, a joke, or something he could teach you. He genuinely enjoyed making people laugh and sharing what he knew. You could almost always find Glen with a smile on his face and that unmistakable twinkle in his eye—a reflection of how much he enjoyed life and the people around him. Whether he was teaching, building, telling stories, teasing someone, or simply visiting, Glen had a way of making people feel welcome and turning ordinary moments into good memories. His love of life, laughter, learning, and people was simply part of who he was, and his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those he leaves behind.

Glen is survived by his wife, Jill. He is also survived by his cherished children: Jared (Kelly), Dan (Nicole), Eric (Shanel), Hannah (Ashish), and Sara; and step-children: Julie Cherrington, Robert (Christina) Cherrington, and Jeanette Carter. He was adored by all his grandkids and great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings, Marilyn (Peter) Hansen, Richard (Carol) Hansen, David Hansen, Elizabeth Ward, Niels Hansen, Rebecca Vande Sluis, and brother-in-law Rian Anderson will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Annie Butler and Hyrum Dee Hansen; his sisters Deanna Rice (and husband, Odell), Carol Wayman (and husband, Tom), Gail Peterson (and husband, Richard), and Jane Anderson; and his brothers-in-law Michael Ward and Bill Vande Sluis.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Glen's life and his profound impact on his family and friends. It will be held in Glen’s heaven on earth - his farm in Fountain Green, Utah, at the grove on September 26th, 2026 from 2-4pm. Please email glenhansenmemories.com for directions.
