John Fisk Stout
February 22,1954 – September 3, 2025
John was born in Hurricane, Utah, to Emerald and Roma Stout. He had an idyllic childhood on the farm and lived a life filled with curiosity and adventure. He graduated from Hurricane High as a star athlete and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan, where he loved the people and culture. He carried that legacy of love for people throughout his life and touched the hearts of all he met.
John was well loved by his family, friends, ward, and community, where he now leaves a giant hole. He lit up the room wherever he went with his kindness and generosity. John was hardworking and playful and had a creative and inventive mind, always thinking of ways to make work more efficient. He designed innovative tools and had several patents. John owned and operated Pioneer Roofing Company for forty-five years and worked until the day he was suddenly admitted to the hospital for pneumonia, which proved to be metastatic pancreatic cancer. He passed away peacefully at home a week later, surrounded by his family.
John’s greatest work and joy were his children and grandchildren. He and his wife, Linda, were exemplary models of blending a family and carefully teaching the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. John and Linda enjoyed a loving and supportive relationship with Malia Hale, the mother of four of John’s children. John had a deep love for the Savior and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In his most recent years when he had more time, he had an accelerated passion for learning and spiritual growth, studying the scriptures, and attending the temple weekly.
John was generous with his time, talents, and love. He had a deep desire to help and lift others. He inspired others to live life to the fullest with his happy attitude, adventurous spirit, and sunny disposition. He instilled in his children a great work ethic and a positive can-do attitude. He is survived by his wife Linda, twelve of their children—Marilyn, Spencer, Alan, Amanda, Paul, Alana, Shawna, Laura, Mason, Rachel, Angela, and Emma—their spouses, and forty and counting grandchildren. John is now happily reunited with his daughter Anna, his parents and many siblings, and other family members who have gone before him. He was the kindest, most faith-filled, and most generous man we ever knew.
We will miss him terribly.
