Kenneth Dean Chipman of St. Geroge, UT passed away Friday, August 29th after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Dianne Gough Chipman and three children: Shawna Rae Bourne, Melinda Anne Welling (Michael), and Kenneth Gary Chipman. Also left to mourn their beloved Papa are 10 grandchildren: Kaitlyn Bourne (Chris Burnes), Karlee Bourne, Kerrie Bourne, Kenny Welling (Abigail), Sam Welling (Lily), Lydia Welling, Jack Welling, Abbey Chipman, Jake Chipman and Henry Chipman, two beautiful great grandchildren Teddy and Margaret Bobbie Welling, and his sister Mary Kaye Thomson from Magrath, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Devere and Dorothy Chipman, and his two brothers Jim and Reed Chipman.
Ken was born and raised in Magrath, Alberta Canada. It was in Canada he began his more than 40-year career as a teacher. He left Canada to pursue and obtain his Ed.D. at Brigham Young University. He then went on to finish out his career teaching at the college level. There is no way to measure the influence his life had on his many students. In the final years of his life, he was inundated with cards and notes from so many of the students he taught.
Ken was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he and Dianne spent over 18 years as temple ordinance workers. Together they were also able to serve an 18 month temple mission in Nauvoo, IL.
Ken will be missed by all those who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was sharp witted, a great poet and so many of his friends and family have poems that he wrote for them. He was a great man who lived a life of love and humility. He was not one to draw attention to himself, but he was a giant to his wife, children and grandchildren. Ken and Dianne had a sign in their family home that read, “the greatest gift you can give your children are parents that love each other.” Ken, along with Dianne, gave their children that great gift. He is loved and he will be missed.
