St George

Listen to Obituary

Our Beloved wife, mom, grandmother, sister, daughter, LaVon ReNee LaGant passed away November 6, 2025, in St George Utah, with her family by her side. She was born October 6, 1939, to Melvin Nels Thompson and Viola Mary Christensen Thompson.

She graduated from Jordan High School 1957. She loved being beet digger. Our mom was the best mom. She loved all her kids, and the grandkids calling her Gammy. She was always there for all of us. She dropped everything to travel out of state to help everyone. Her heart was extraordinarily strong, and she grew through her struggles with all the blessings and rewards of her family.

She married Stanley Jex on February 14, 1958, and later divorced in 1973. They shared four children together. She then married the love of her life John LaGant May 5, 1973. She loved golfing, she was a Women’s Club Champ in the 1980’s at Lava Hills (South Gate), she loved spending time with friends and family.

She was well-remembered by many who called her mom while she worked at the golf course counters and in the restaurants. Utah Golf Courses she worked at: Mountain View Golf Course, Dixie Red Hills Golf Course, Lava Hills (South Gate) Golf Courses, and Kenderick Golf Course in Sheridan, Wyoming.

She also had her Real Estate License for 35+ years in Southern Utah. She partnered with her daughter, Jennifer. They were both with Bond Real Estate for a while where they were known as the Bond Girls. They both later became Real Estate Agents, along with her Husband John with ReMax Sky Mountain Team in Hurricane, Utah.

She loved to collect roosters and clocks, beanie babies, barbie dolls, porcelain dolls. She loved Kentucky Fried Chicken, and she had a name for that, that we can’t say what it is. She collected trains and had a cool train system in her office going around the top of the walls.

When we were little, she would stay up all hours of the night sewing clothes for all of us. She and her best friend Toni Guest used to sew identical jumpsuits for themselves. She had clothing designer talent. She enjoyed making crafts, many of which we will treasure.

She taught herself how to play the piano. And she collected pianos and Old Pump Organs. She was a member of the LDS Church throughout her life. She was always a true believer of Christ and what she grew up with. Even though she wasn’t an active member, She always jokingly said to put on her headstone, “pure as the driven snow but then she drifted and drifted”. But in our eyes, she is always pure as the driven white snow.

She was a classy lady, who loved nice clothes, a collection of shoes, and purses. She always had nice fingers and toenails. And her hair was always perfect everywhere she went.

She is survived by her husband, John LaGant, sister, Susan Thompson, brothers Randy Thompson and Keith Thompson, her son Jeffrey Jex (Michelle) Provo, Utah, Favorite Daughter LeeAnn Jex Jones (Tracey) Twin Falls, Idaho, Son Layne Jex, St George, Utah, and her second favorite daughter Jennifer Jex Kraft, St George, UT., Son James LaGant, Salt Lake City, UT, and Daughter Tiffany LaGant, Ferndale, WA. She had 12 grandkids, 17 great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Noel Thompson, and her sisters Gloria Smith and Janice Williamson and RoseMary Kelly.

The funeral viewing is scheduled at McArthur Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 11, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Located 160 West 700 South, St George, Ut 84770.
