Mary Louise (Robinson) Woolf

Mary Louise Woolf, age 77, passed away on May 7, 2025 in Saint George, Utah, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She was born on March 9, 1948, to Flora Louise and Leon Durham Robinson. Mary grew up in a large family, with eight siblings, in Parowan, Utah.

She married her sweetheart, Eugene Terrence Woolf, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on July 12, 1971. They were together for more than 50 years, and had two children, Karen and Michelle. Mary was an exemplary mother and teacher who introduced her own children to the joys of reading early in life.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, and spent time teaching in Nevada, before joining Terry in California, where they settled in Fresno. She qualified as an elementary and middle school teacher in California in 1977, and earned a special credential in Language Development in 1991. She taught students from kindergarten through eighth grade for more than 40 years, and particularly enjoyed teaching the second grade. Mary valued science and discovery, and was a California State Finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2004. Other teachers called her “a person of great strength and intelligence” and “unending storehouse of ideas”, whose students were never far from her thoughts.

Mary loved sewing, particularly quilting, and enjoyed making quilts for family and friends alike. She was also an accomplished pianist, who encouraged her children to learn music as well, and she often played the piano at school and church events. She was an active member of the LDS church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and enjoyed studying the history of her pioneer ancestors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Terry, and is survived by daughters Karen and Michelle, brothers Wayne, Glenn, Kevin, Jon, Mike, and Dan, and sisters Mette and Wendy.

A service will be held in Parowan, Utah on June 20.
