Sylvia Ann Buchanan, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in St. George, Utah, on April 2, 2026.

Sylvia was born on February 26, 1938, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Leroy Chester Eichelberger and Anna Isabel King. As a young girl, she moved with her parents and her brother, Lane, to Houston, Texas, where she grew up and developed the charming Southern drawl that stayed with her throughout her life.

She graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1956 and soon moved to Salt Lake City, where she began working and met the love of her life, Douglas Buchanan. They married in 1958 and welcomed their first two children, Carrie and Barry, while living in Salt Lake City. Doug’s work later took the family to several places across the country before they eventually returned to Houston, where their third and fourth children, Brett and Sean, were born.

After ten years in Houston, Sylvia and Doug made the decision in 1977 to return to Utah, settling in Sandy and building a beautiful home beneath the Wasatch Mountains. Sylvia worked for various law firms as a legal secretary and concluded her career with the Utah Education Association, retiring in 2000.

Sylvia had a gift for creating beauty and joy in everyday life. She loved baking, photography, and decorating for every season. A master gardener, she cultivated vibrant spaces that reflected her creativity and care. She cherished lunches with friends, attending plays, watching comedies, and especially enjoying British television series. Her quick wit and infectious laughter were among her greatest gifts, and she passed that love of humor on to her children.

A devoted Christian from a young age, Sylvia lived her faith with sincerity and grace. She and Doug raised their children to follow the teachings of Jesus, and her gentle example shaped generations.

Sylvia and Doug remained in their Sandy home until 2025, when they moved together to St. George. Just four days after Sylvia’s passing, Doug joined her—unable to bear life without his beloved wife. Their bond, steadfast for nearly seven decades, continues now in eternity.

Sylvia is survived by her four children: Carrie Miller, Barry Buchanan, Brett Buchanan, and Sean Buchanan; her three grandchildren: Erin Rissmiller, Kelley Revels, and April Buchanan; and ten great‑grandchildren: Quentin, Isabella, Rowan, Eden, London, Aailiya, Drason, Markel, Lyric, and Ashton.

Her legacy lives on in the laughter she inspired, the beauty she created, and the love she gave so freely.
