Wesley W. Powell, 81, of Leeds, Utah, passed away on October 12, 2026, in St. George, UT. Born in Price, Utah on July 28, 1945 to David S. and Verla Wittwer Powell. Wes was the middle of seven children and learned early the value of hard work on the family farm in Wellington, UT. His family later moved to Las Vegas where he graduated from high school.
Wes spent his early adult years in Las Vegas before settling in Kanarraville, Utah, with Carol Robinson Utz, where he raised three sons, Link and Lance Powell, and Troy Utz. He loved taking them camping, hunting, and fishing. Wes and Carol later divorced.
A gifted salesman, Wes began his career at Charleston TV & Appliance in Las Vegas, later owning Red Ledges Campground in Kanarra and selling appliances throughout Utah and Nevada. In 1989, he founded Appliance Wholesalers Plus and opened stores in Cedar City, St. George, and Las Vegas.
That same year, Wes met Kathy Jones Hintze at the Cobble crest Dance Hall. They married on November 4, 1989, and together they built a life filled with work, partnership, and adventure. He retired at 55, and the two traveled widely, most memorably driving across the country and to Alaska. Wes enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. One of his biggest accomplishments was helping a friend build his cabin and crafting the beautiful handmade pine furniture that filled it.
In 2013, Wes and Kathy moved to Leeds, Utah, where they made many close friends. The area welcomed them with open arms, and through those friendships, Wes became more active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed 4-wheeling with friends, volunteered in many capacities at the Silver Reef Museum, and kept an immaculate yard - something he took great pride in.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jana Young; brother-in-law Robert Rudman; and sisters-in-law Nadine Powell and K’Lene Powell. Wes is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons Link and Lance; stepchildren Jason (LaDawn) Hintze and Kristin Hintze; siblings David, Kenny, Gary (Joan), Sandy (Alan) Fausett, and Shirley Rudman; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Hurricane City Cemetery, 255 E 600 N, Hurricane, UT.84737, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
